Kidney disease, a very difficult disease to treat affects 1 3 percent of American adults and majority of those sufferers eventually develop high blood pressure that is linked to kidney malfunction, many times leading to cardiovascular complications. For many years, nutritionist and doctors have recommended eating daily portions of vegetables rich in fiber and protein to promote healthy living. Researchers with the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg, Canada ventured to purify yellow pea protein and administer the formula to rats in an effort to determine if the formula could lower blood pressure and prevent chronic kidney disease. The team of researchers fed small amounts of the yellow pea protein along with feed to rats with chronic kidney disease, and another group of diseased rats only feed without the pea enzyme, daily over the eight week long study period.
