Tribe Face Tough Pitching This Weekend

Summary

Before the start of the season Cliff Lee and Joe Saunders weren't supposed to be competing for the AL Cy Young Award. They weren't even supposed to be the aces of their respective staffs.

Now that they are, Indians fans can look forward to getting a display from the two best left-handers in the AL this weekend as the Indians and Los Angeles Angels meet for a three-game series at Progressive Field. Lee will start Friday's opener and Saunders will pitch either Saturday or Sunday.

Saunders opened the season in the shadow of Angels' ace John Lackey, who won 18 games and finished third in AL Cy Young voting last year. But both Lackey and Kelvim Escobar, the Angels' No. 2 pitcher, began the season injured, opening the door for Saunders. He didn't pick up the victory in his team's 4-3 win Sunday, but he is 14-6 with a 3.07 ERA.
