Congratulations to North Suffolk students who earned the 2009 Suffolk Ruritan Club's Academic Achievement Awards. These are fifth- and eighth-graders with the highest and second highest academic averages. Elementary student winners receive a $50 savings bond. Each middle school student with the highest grade-point average gets a $100 savings bond, and each middle school student with the second highest grade-point average gets a $50 bond. Our North Suffolk winners are Benjamin Dearborn of Creekside Elementary, Dylan Kania of Driver Elementary, Makayla Evins of Nansemond Parkway Elementary, Morgan Jones of Northern Shores Elementary and Arielle Reyes of Oakland Elementary School. Sara Gallagher and Janelle Jones were the winners at John Yeates Middle School. Marcus Pruitt and Christine Fulgham were winners at King's Fork Middle School.

If Saturday mornings are always too busy to even think about taking in a local farmer's market, now you have an alternative. During July, The Shoppes at Governor's Pointe are hosting a Friday evening farmer's market from 5 to 8:30. Pick up some fresh produce and enjoy the crafts, entertainment, food, beer and wine-tasting! If you have questions, call Brenda at Bon Vivant at 238-7038.
