Summary

The Tropic is coming to the end of its summer short film preview series, with the finals of the 2006 Manhattan Short Festival coming up in September. This week, you can check out the finalists from the 2005 Festival. There's "The Lump," a comedy about Joe's twin brother growing inside of him; the very topical Israeli film "Crickets," about a boy whose parents are killed by a terrorist; and "The Institutional Guide to Dating," a quirky Australian 1950s film that lives up to its title. Twelve films in all, from seven countries, shown twice. One ticket admits you to both shows, so see them twice or catch part of each show. One day only, Monday, Aug. 14, at 7 and 9 p.m.

"Water" is the last in [Deepa Mehta]'s trilogy that includes "Fire" and "Earth."
