Summary
Directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, this is a tour de force by an off-kilter visionary. In addition to "Cigarettes & Coffee" (1993), "Boogie Nights" (1997), and "Punch-Drunk Love (2002), he directed one of my favorite ensemble films, "Magnolia" (1999).
"There Will Be Blood" will add to Andersen's reputation as a much talked-about filmmaker. About.com says the film is "destined to take its place among such ageless tragedies of American avarice as 'The Godfather,' "The Treasure of the Sierra Madre,' 'Scarface' and yes, 'Citizen Kane.'"Having made an early mark in such films as "My Beautiful Laudrette" (1985), "A Room With a View" (1985), and "The Unbearable Lightness of Being" (1988), [Daniel Day-Lewis] won an Oscar for his moving performance as the paraplegic in "My Left Foot" (1989).
