The top 100 associate degrees conferred.

Nearly 250,000 students of color received associate degrees in academic year 2008-09. This represents 30 percent of all associate degree recipients, which is just slightly below the 33 percent representation of these racial/ethnic groups in the general U.S. population. In this edition of the Top 100 series, we highlight the institutions that are contributing most to these impressive statistics, overall, as well as in various fields of study.

As a result, we cannot yet accommodate in this listing multiracial students. Starting next year we should be able to do so with more reliable data.

Before turning to the lists, we de scribe the data source and methods.

The data are collected for all postsecondary degrees as well as for other formal awards conferred in academic, vocational and continuing professional education programs. Institutions categorize their degrees according to the Classification of Instructional Program (CIP) codes developed by NCES. CIP codes provide a common set of categories allowing comparisons across all colleges and universities.

The IPEDS degree completions survey includes responses from 2,967 postsecondary institutions that awarded at least one associate degree. W...
