"This is an activist conference and participants are usually grass-roots organizers that are already part of NOW," said [Olga Vives], stressing that non-members are encouraged to attend. "This conference is skill-building, an issues-driven conference so our action plans are drafted at the conference, and it's also a celebration of our birthday."

"Being part of the discussion, I don't remember it being brought up," said Vives. "But certainly we support the effort of commemorating any historical event that promoted the rights of women."

It's hard to say how the two events will affect each other in terms of attendance. On average, Convention Days typically hosts 100 to 300 people from as far away as Boston during the five-day commemoration, while NOW hooks in about 700 to 800 from around the country. [Bonnie Vaughn] equates the NOW convention with other events that have occurred during past Convention Days. "I don't think it's going to affect it in a negative way," she said. "We find every year that there's something else going on. It never seems to affect us."
