Practitioners within health, mental health, and human services agencies have long been familiar with hot lines designed to provide crisis intervention and referral services. Typically, these hot lines are ongoing or long term in nature and provide an opportunity for caregivers to intervene in the lives of those who otherwise might not seek help.
