It's been a quiet year. There were no major disasters in the United States requiring dramatic charitable response. There were no real threats from Congress on governance and tax reform of the charitable sector since they are worrying more about who's running for president than actually running the country.
Sure, there were a couple of scandals, such as the mess at the Smithsonian. Charity executives, in general, were left alone to do their jobs. And, what a job some of them have done. It is also clear that a changing of the guard has begun in the sector. The retirement of several influential leaders has brought some fresh blood into the inner circle of influence.
