Summary
[Barbara Sykes] was essentially forced out of her position in the wake of a controversial effort by the OCRC to create rules and structure for the use of maternity leave. For 30 years, Ohio has prohibited discrimination against working women who are pregnant, granting them "reasonable" time for leave.
When the OCRC attempted to standardize the process and procedures for granting that leave, it was met with a firestorm of opposition by business groups. When [Ted Strickland] asked Sykes to delay implementing the new rules, the OCRC voted by a 3-2 margin to proceed.
