Summary
Indian Market is feeling the influence of this new force. More and more artists are entering work in the "diverse art forms" category, where tradition unravels to reveal new ideas. Native artists, increasingly, are placing Indian ideas and sensibilities into the culture at large and shaking the tree just to see what falls off. Douglas Miles will exhibit spray-can stencil art this year--a first for Indian Market (see page 28). Sara Marie Ortiz plans to use Indian Market's de facto capacity as a gathering of tribes to rally her peers to cultural and political action (see page 22).
