Summary
Even for [Brett Easton Ellis], this is autopilot transgression; when one character is revealed late in the game to like it rough, it hardly raises an eyebrow. Ellis' work can sometimes, and then only sort of, work as deeply misanthropic comedy. Roger Avary's film of The Rules of Attraction is so foul and mean-spirited, the only natural reaction is laughter. The Informers, by contrast, is one big pity party.
The film's timing is awfulwhat's offensive isn't so much that it asks for sympathy for unhappy rich and privileged assholes, but that they barely qualify as even caricatures, let alone characters. It's like being asked to feel for furniture.See the full content of this document
