Summary
In a real sense, the United States Supreme Court's recent 5-4 decision overturning two voluntary school desegregation plans, in Seattle and Louisville, will have little practical effect on the education of many urban children in Ohio. Ohio's cities, for the most part, have already fought their ugly and painful battles over desegregation many years ago, and housing patterns and school district lines have essentially left Ohio's major urban school districts as predominantly-Black islands in a sea of White suburban and rural districts.
