U.S. politicians need to realize that if the United States turns its back on Canadian oil sands, China will take our place, and atmospheric levels of greenhouse-gas emissions will likely grow. Prohibiting the use of Canadian oil sands is the height of folly. Promoting the development of an oilsands industry would help keep hundreds of billions of dollars out of the hands of OPEC countries. Together with U.S. oil shale and liquefied coal, Canadian oil sands would stimulate job growth in North America and generate tax revenue. It would be shortsighted not to use Canadian oil sands crude.
