Summary


Years ago, when Charlotte was just seventeen, [Curtis] slept with her and she got pregnant. Wanting to be around for his son made Curtis go straight-and-narrow, but for Charlotte, a wedding was a way to The Good Life. Curtis promised her that he would make lots of money if she married and stuck by him. But Curtis is boring now, and he doesn't make anywhere near the three-to-five thousand dollars a week that he promised Charlotte they'd have. The kind of money that Curtis makes isn't enough to pay all Charlotte's credit card bills, and life as First Lady of a church in Mitchell, Wisconsin, is terribly dull. The only exciting things in Charlotte's life are the afternoons spent in bed with Aaron Malone, who just happens to be Curtis' best friend.
