MARQUETTE AVENUE, WHERE IT PASSES ORCHESTRA HALL in downtown Minneapolis, was quieter than usual for two days in late spring-buses had been diverted to another street. Commuters might have wondered about the fuss: A presidential visit? A diplomatic convention? But a sign at the 12th Street bus stop related the reason. "Route 673 will not stop here: Minnesota Orchestra Hall Recording Sessions." ¶ Inside Orchestra Hall that weekend, the air conditioning was turned off-too noisy.
