Summer Teacher Institute Gives Participants a Taste of Life in the Colonies

Summary


For a couple days this summer, teacher Jessica Allen dressed in Colonial garb, learned 17th-century dinner-table etiquette and plucked the suckers from tobacco plants.

Allen was one of 24 Virginia teachers selected to attend the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation's 2009 Summer Teacher Institute. The fifth-grade reading and social studies instructor said she loved every minute of the program.
