More than 16 years ago, an elderly man who lived alone was attacked and beaten by burglars who allegedly were looking for canning jars of money buried in his basement.

Earl E. Morgan reportedly lay on the floor of his Glendale Avenue home for two days, suffering from broken bones, before a neighbor found him. Morgan never was able to live independently again and spent his final six months in a nursing home, dying at age 90.
