Downtown Evansville Inc.'s chief executive weighed in Tuesday on behalf of new housing for the "Kenny Kent block," promising a new survey on housing needs to bolster his contention that living space is the chief need and key to Downtown revitalization.

"Lofts are great, but we also think we need to see other housing development," said Jeff Lake, Downtown Evansville president. Lake told the Evansville Redevelopment Commission his agency will sample a wide geographical area through a new housing survey to assemble "hard data" on current desire and need for Downtown housing.
