Summer Conservation Program Now has Jobs for High Schoolers

"This new element to the Urban Conservation Crew program allows us to keep our students continually engaged throughout their high school years," said Doreen Whitley, school programs coordinator for the Grange Insurance Audubon Center, who oversees the annual program in partnership with the Columbus Urban League, The Columbus West Side Boys and Girls Club and The Columbus Central Community House. "This opportunity also allows these students to determine if they want to explore a future career in urban conservation and gives them a terrific start in that direction."

"This is exciting for me to be able to teach and mentor these students about my job, hopefully getting them excited so they too will explore a career in conservation," said Marshall Reese, park manager for the Whittier Metro Park and the first African-American individual to head a Columbus Metro Park. "The opportunities in conservation are endless and can be very be rewarding."
