"New Yorkers already pay, on average, the highest electricity prices in the Continental US," [Scott M. Stringer] said. "Now, in the wake of blackouts, steam pipe explosions, and pedestrian electrocutions, Con Edison wants a 25 percent rate increase. That is asking too much of hard-working families and business owners. At the very least, there should be a rate freeze for the quarter-million Con Ed customers subsisting on the lowest rungs of the economic ladder."
