Summary
Municipal shared services programs include sharing police and fire dispatching; patrolling; criminal investigating; training; purchasing of equipment; vehicle maintenance; prisoner detention; drug and vice enforcement; specialized traffic investigations; police facilities; tactical teams; animal control; evidence technicians; records keeping and other areas of public safety. All general data from the feasibility study will be used along with a number of important dictums such as who the lead agency will be, calculations of costs, housing of the dispatch center and a recommendation of which option of shared dispatch service will be used. Implementation This step involves developing a plan for the implementation by establishing a starting date, assuring equipment is ready, the staff is scheduled, members of participating police departments are informed of the program, standard operating procedures have been completed and approved, the chain of command is established, the public is apprised, and a plan for evaluation is established.

All police administrators want to save taxpayers' money while improving police services. They know the growing trend toward shared services is a way to these savings and improved service.
