Summary


Lawmakers said they needed more time to negotiate with the governor when they declined to send their budget package to Jan Brewer's desk. But as the negotiations continue, Brewer is using the lull to take aim at the myriad provisions of the budget she considers unacceptable.

Brewer ramped up her offensive against lawmakers and the budget they passed last week with a daylong forum June 9 that included testimony from educators, health care providers, law enforcement officials and city officials. More than two dozen people, many of whom voiced their support for Brewer's budget plan and her proposal to increase the state sales tax by 1 cent, testified about the negative impacts they believe the Legislature's budget will have if signed by the governor.
