Like ghosts of a bygone era, these new fifles from Marlin bring back the love of the levergun and the mystique of the .45-70.

At one time, hyphenated cartridges were the norm. One could have .44-40s, .40-65s, .38-55s, and .45-70s, as well as many others that have long disappeared from the scene. The hyphen served a purpose. The first number indicated caliber, the second, powder charge, in black powder of course, and when a third number appeared such as the .45-70-500, it indicated bullet weight.
