Spinner Earns 'Trotter Tickets

Summary

Devon Gordon, a Jolliff Middle School sixth-grader, likes to spin a basketball on one finger. That paid off when the family visited Chesapeake Square for lunch Jan. 29. Harlem Globetrotter Wun "The Shot" Versher was there challenging kids to compete for four tickets to a Globetrotters game by spinning a basketball on their finger for as long as possible. Being practiced at it, Devon thought he could win, even though Wun made him spin on a different finger. He tied twice before winning on the third try for 3 seconds. Who knows, we could have a future Globetrotter right here in Western Branch.

Kenna Cribb loves teenagers and loves theatre, so she has the perfect job as the high school drama and communications director at StoneBridge School. A graduate of StoneBridge and Regent University, she recently wrote, produced and directed a musical, "A New Christmas Carol." I wondered what would be "new," and had a ticket for the December performance. But, it was postponed until after the holidays due to snow. Unable to attend in January, I recently talked with Kenna, who said the story "stuck to the basics," but was "modernized with more relative terms and culture" and "a few twists." For example, Scrooge was married and contemplated suicide. New characters were added to old ones. Traditional carols and songs, and an original by Kenna, formed the music. I look forward to their next production, "You Can't Take It With You," in the spring.
