"It was an instinctive act," remembers [Kate Munger]. "I didn't think about it at first, but then I watched him get calmer, I got calmer. I felt like I'd discovered some essential part of myself, a gift only I could give."

The group's repertoire is expansive and covers an array of genres. Many of Threshold's songs are original, written by members. They're also happy to take requests. "We tailor our music to the client," says Munger. "If we know it, we'll sing it; if we don't know it, we'll learn it."

She thinks the reason for the choir's success is simple. "People are hungry for good news and stories they can connect with," she says. "Music connects with people on a side of the brain that's receptive to comfort."
