Manufacturers have to select cleaning compounds which conform to stringent environmental regulations. Viable alternatives to CFC 113 and 1,1,1-trichloroethane should therefore be sought. Some EPA-approved cleaners include aqueous and semi-aqueous cleanners, methylene chloride, waterless organic solvents, volatile methyl siloxanes and other high-tech processes such as supercritical fluid cleaning.
