Q: We are starting to build a house in Florida We would like to know what the soil under the slab should be treated with and about what it should cost.

A: The treatment process and choice of chemicals will depend on the location of the home and the species of termites that might invade the home. The most common type of termite in the U.S. is the subterranean termite. The subterranean termites live in large colonies under the soil and must maintain soil contact in order to survive. Subterranean termites are controlled by treating the soils with chemicals or by placing bait stations around the home's foundation.
