Smokers Bracing for Jump in Kentucky Cigarette Tax

Times are changing for Kentucky smokers, long accustomed to a barely noticeable cigarette tax in deference to tobacco's lofty status in the state.

Starting June 1, the 3-cent-per-pack cigarette tax -- lowest in the nation -- goes up by 27 cents. That has some smokers fuming that they were singled out unfairly in a tax overhaul passed by the General Assembly this week in hopes of solving the state's nagging fiscal woes.
