Summary


Trafficking in human slavery - a practice as ancient as history - is alive and malevolently well around the globe. The numbers of such people trapped in this shadowy world are unclear. But it has been estimated that as many as 800,000 people worldwide - and possibly up to 17,000 in the United States - are in some state of forced servitude.

The federal government, under the leadership of U.S. Rep. Deborah Pryce, R-Upper Arlington, has been attempting to address this growing problem. The Rescue and Restore Coalition, comprised of a wide range of philanthropic, social service, criminal justice, religious and immigrant groups, is attempting to identify those trapped in this netherworld, provide them with help to escape, and identify and prosecute those who are abusing them.
