Summary

No time for a mid-morning coffee run? Call - or email - the "Mobile Barista," Chittenden County's caffeinated Good Humor Man. With a fully equipped coffee van, Erik Olsen delivers hot java, fruit smoothies and freshly steeped tea to offices in Colchester, South Burlington and Winooski. On weekends he brings the buzz to fairs and craft shows, offering up macchiatos, Americanos and thermal carafes of steaming Guatemalan Coban and shade-grown Ecuadorian "Puyango."

Shelburne Road's got plenty of fast-food options. But the new Lake-View Restaurant in South Burlington calls for a serious slow-down. David Hugo, chef-owner of the acclaimed Starry Night Café in Ferrisburgh, has taken over as the restaurant's manager. The updated menu stays true to his love of local products and cooking craftmanship. Asked which items are made from scratch, Hugo boasts, "We make everything, even the crackers for the soup."

Not the DIY type? House "specialties" and "favorites" include "East Coast" cioppino, pan-roasted chicken "Carbonaro" and the ultimate in New England fare: a thick pork chop with maple baked beans and house-made brown bread. Even with local ingredients, the prices are comparable to more conventional restaurants. Only a few entrées exceed $20. "All steaks can surf," the menu notes in Hugo's style. "Add a Maine lobster tail for $9.50."
