As recently as 1970, a Supreme Court in New York state used this language in De Kosenko vs. Brandt, a decision which upheld the exclusion of women from jury service: "Her lament should be addressed to the ' 19th Amendment State of Womanhood' which prefers cleaning and cooking, rearing of children and telesion soap operas, bridge and canasta, the beauty parlor and shopping, to becoming embroiled in plaintiff's problems."
