Summary
16 BLOCKS-[Bruce Willis] finds his way back to the big screen after what seems like a lengthy absence (though he did show up in 2005's Hostage and got himself onto That '70s Show). This time he s a stache-sportin' cop who just can't seem to do a whole lot right. When he's tasked with the errand of escorting a witness 16 blocks from the station to the courthouse, he starts doing things the right way-much to the chagrin of his fellow boys in blue who want the witness dead. Mos Def (Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy) co-stars as the marked witness and ponies up plenty of laughs. (PG 13) Edwards 21
THE SHAGGY DOG-Tim Allen's antiserum for Santa morphing apparently turns him into the shaggy dog. A district attorney who is unbeatable in court, Dave Douglas (Tim Allen) may be all business when it comes to law, but he's not much of a family man. When a lovable shaggy stray dog shows up on the doorstep of his family's home, and encounter with the dog's teeth leaves Douglas infected with a condition that unexpectedly changes him into ... the shaggy dog. It's a new take on an old classic featuring Kristen Davis as Mrs. Douglas, as well as Danny Glover and Robert Downey Jr. (PG) Northgate, Edwards 9, Edwards 21SHE'S THE MAN-Proving that Shakespeare was the master of timeless tales is Hollywood-which has a nasty habit of squeezing his comedies and tragedies into modern high school life (aside from Lurhmann's Romeo + [Juliette Binoche], which was the exception by honestly delivering dialogue). Apparently Julia Stiles has outgrown Shakespeare after starring in both 1999's 10 Things I Hate About You (a take on The Taming of the Shrew) and 0 in 2001 (O being short for Othlello). Amy Smart took up Macbeth in 2001's Scotland, PA and Amanda Bynes has picked up the Shakespearian torch with She's trie Man, a take on Twelfth Night. The short version? All the usual Shakespeare hijinks: cross dressing, mistaken identity, misplaced infatuations, concealed love and forbidden love-only this time it all takes place at a snooty boarding school.
