Fish talks about the vanishing of the eucalyptus trees in California, which is the subject of the painting of Judith Belzer. Eucalyptus are disappearing across California. Many have fallen to shopping centers and houses, but they're also being removed from gardens and parks for the reasons that these trees can grow tall, too tall for many spaces. Above all, these trees have been condemned as a fire hazard, blamed for the disastrous Oakland Hills fire of 1991.
