Summary
San Anselmo doesn't have a total monopoly on Film Night in the Park screenings-San Rafael, Fairfax, Ross, Mill Valley and the San Geronimo Valley also. get turns-but it boasts by far the most showings. Movies set to be projected under the stars in Creek Park include: the Beatles tune-infused rock musical Across the Universe (July 11); the multi-Oscar winning Chariots of Fire (July 18); Surf's Up, the tale of some nutty animated penguins who know how to hang two (flippers that is, July 19); Whatever Happened to Baby Jane? (August 8); The Goonies (August 9); Touch of Evil (August 15); Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, in which the pubescent wizard battles Lord Voldemort and, more frighteningly, discovers girls (August 16); George Lucas's American Graffiti, accompanied by the San Anselmo Hot August Car Show (August 17); Shaolin Soccer, where martial arts meet cleats with predictable results (August 29); Mary Poppins (August 30); the feel-good, Oscar-winning teen pregnancy comedy Juno (August 31); the delightful French import Amelie (September 26); and the classic The Bridge on the River Kwai (September 27). Whew! Truly, something for every cinematic taste. So pack some pillows and blankets and low-backed lawn chairs, purchase a little popcorn and enjoy the show.
Straddling San Anselmo's border with neighboring Ross, the Marin Art & Garden Center provides still more summertime delights, including a few of the theatrical kind.
