Choice Financial (Grafton, North Dakota) is opening its second branch in Grand Forks. Lynn Paulson, the bank's CEO, said the Grand Forks market continues to be strong. There are a good number of banks moving in and expanding around the growth in Grand Forks, and that is just the thing - it is growing, Paulson said. You might sometimes hear talk about an area being over-banked, and I suppose you could make that argument, but that is true in Grand Forks. A lot of people still think of North Dakota as a rural state. But for better or worse, the rural population is shrinking and the urban centers are becoming the state's economic engines. The bank's new branch will sit in the far south end of town. Paulson said the move was made largely to boost customer convenience. To be honest, customers had one branch in the northwest corner of the city and for many this was just a little too out of the way, Paulson said.
