Roxbury Film Fest Helps Launch Careers

Summary

Filmmaker Ellie Lee, whose compelling apocalyptic film "Dog Days" was screened at the Roxbury Film Festival in 2000, has been selected as a recipient of the Rockefeller Foundation Media Arts Fellowship for Emerging Artists. Some 14 media artists in the U.S. were chosen in the film and video category, each of whom received $35,000. The fellowship encourages making film and video that reflects America's diverse culture.

Currently, Lee is directing documentary episodes of a new PBS children's series, "Postcards From Buster." She is also in development of a documentary feature, "Match" (in collaboration with filmmaker Amy Goodman), and, as well, a feature film "The Road Home" in association with the 2004 Tribeca Film Festival.

"The encouragement I have received from ACT, as well as other Roxbury based organizations such as FilmShack, has been important in my early development as a filmmaker in our community." Lee grew up in the South End in the '70s and went to the James P. Timilty Middle School in Roxbury. A graduate of Harvard, she was born in Hong Kong.
