Summary


AS I SAT on the back porch, hair clippers buzzing, son holding the dog's tail in the air as I prepared to save $100 by grooming the massive cadoodle (collie/poodle) myself, I reflected on the state of the nation's economy. Shaving a dog's butt seemed the perfect metaphor for American finances having now dwindled from bull to bear to dog end.

We have never had much money, but this economy is going to make celebrating Christmas, preventing foreclosure and keeping the lights on a trifecta we're unlikely to win. Unfortunately, most of the nation is drowning in the same betting pool.
