Student Rights Violated in Censorship, 2nd Circuit Rules

Summary


A school violated a 13-year-old student's First Amendment rights when it forced him to put duct tape over T-shirt images disparaging President Bush, according to the U.S. Court of Appeals.

In Zachary Guiles v. Seth Marineau, et al., the 2nd Circuit court determined the pictures of alcohol and drugs on the shirt should not have been censored because they were not plainly offensive and didn't cause any serious disruptions.
