Summary


A bad boy with guns who became a folk hero when he robbed banks will battle it out with cute Ice Age critters and dinosaurs for the holiday weekend box office crown. And, for grown-ups, don't count out Michelle Pfeiffer teaching a young boy about, uh, life. The new offerings are set to challenge "Transformers" and "The Hangover."

"PUBLIC ENEMIES" Johnny Depp plays John Dillinger, once Public Enemy No. 1 for his bank-robbing spree in the 1930s. Christian Bale plays FBI pursuer Melvin Purvis. The story has been told before, but the Academy is just itching to give longtime character actor Depp that statue. Could this be the role, even though the film is being released in the middle of the summer amid escapist fare? Directed by Michael Mann. R
