Montgomery Ward

The nation's ninth largest retailer, Montgomery Ward, has automated its credit and check authorization procedures by installing a wide area SNA network in all its 334 stores in 39 states. The network operates on a fault-tolerant on-line transaction processing platform. Inventory data is also processed on the same system, which is called the Advanced Data Communications Utility (ADCU). Communications costs have been reduced by $150,000 a month. The system, which uses two fiber-optically linked eight-processor NonStop VLX computers from Tandem Computers Inc, was designed by CACI International.
