Summary

The National Campaign for Nonviolent Resistance (NCNR) brought together an ad-hoc October 5 Anti-War Coalition for a series of actions in Washington, D.C. to oppose the U.S. led war in Afghanistan as it enters the ninth year. With the participation of the War Resisters League, Witness Against Torture, Code Pink, Peace Action, World Can't Wait, Veterans for Peace and Voices for Creative Nonviolence, people from around the country joined together to say "No to War in Afghanistan. No to Torture and Vengeance."

That morning, members of Witness Against Torture in orange jumpsuits and black hoods held a "Guantanamo prisoner" presence at the U.S. Supreme Court as Justice Sonia Sotomayor began her tenure there. Four largeheaded puppets of George Bush, Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld and Condoleezza Rice in prison stripes symbolized their call for accountability for the architects of the Bush administration's torture policies.
