Henry Wheatley, CCD, chairman of the board for Fort Knox Federal Credit Union, recently accepted the honor as 2004 DEF Director of the Year during CUES' 2004 Directors Conference, December 3 in Waikoloa, Hawaii. Wheatley, himself, is a rare treat of a man who will never be forgotten by the many people he has touched through his volunteerism. He's been a volunteer for Fort Knox FCU for 27 years and is currently serving his second three-year term as board chairman. Additionally, he has served on the board of the Kentucky Credit Union League for the past six years. But Wheatley's volunteerism goes beyond the credit union movement. He serves the Boy Scouts of America as a program chair for a five-county district and as treasurer of a local troop. As a county chairman for his political party, he has the opportunity to advocate on behalf of credit unions with state legislative leaders.

A Rare Treat of a Man

Growing up in a family of nine children, Henry Wheatley quickly learned the value of sharing. Even an 8-ounce bottle of soda was something a child in a large family from rural Kentucky could never covet for himself. It was a rare treat to be shared among brothers and sisters.
