Anyone who knows your Field Correspondent or who has shared a press box with him knows how he feels about Tommy Lasorda, the sainted former Los Angeles Dodgers manager. In a television interview, Lasorda looks as though he missed his afternoon nap, as well as that cup of coffee to wake him up. He rambles, he stammers, he makes little or no sense, and then he wakes up -- and he doesn't sound any better. He observes that US players who chose not to participate in the World Baseball Classic are "letting their country down." Perhaps they just have more sense than to risk injury in a quasi-meaningless exhibition.
