Statistics published by the Ministry of Justice (MOJ) and the Insolvency Service (IS) reveal that 1,221 debtors made themselves bankrupt every week during 2009. The process requires an appearance at court, and increasing court delays have led Government to consider bypassing the courts, despite the fact that District Judge Robert Jordan has recently identified the lack of consistency across the courts as the main problem, with different procedures in virtually every individual court.
