Publix Celebrates Caribbean Islands' Independence

"South Florida is so diverse, especially with people from all over the Caribbean, that we decided to show our appreciation for all the different cultures that help make up the commun ity," said Kim Jaeger, Publix Media Relations. "Many of our employees are, in fact, from the islands."

"Being Haitian sometimes has a negative connotation, especially here in South Florida and even throughout the Caribbean," said Inverrary resident Thomas Claude. "But we can always brag that we were the first Black country to free itself from slavery and gain independence."

"We are all diverse in culture, and it is great that Publix is recognizing that," Jaeger said. "I'm glad that I am a part of this event myself."
