Schanlaub discusses the perception of the public on police officers. The public perception of police in a particular region will no doubt be a reflection of individual departments within that region and the image of those individual departments is built by the actions of individual officers within that department. Thus, stereotyping and generalizing by the public will always allow a single officer, good or bad, to represent an entire region.
