A Senate committee completely rewrote a House bill that included several sweeping changes to property taxes Tuesday. It instead substituted its own proposals, including switching any growth in local government costs to a local income tax.
The Senate Tax and Fiscal Policy Committee stripped most provisions from House Bill 1001. The committee threw out proposals to give homeowners a tax credit on their 2006 bills, to turn assessing duties for township trustees over to the county, to require a ballot question for any large construction project and to move the increases in costs for child welfare to the state budget.See the full content of this document
