Summary
As befits a play set in this world -- where any direct emotion is verboten -- [Tina Howe]'s play all happens in the margins. Most of the "drama" is inferred and it's up to the audience to decide what's really going on.
For some reason this production has neglected the theatricality of the work. Howe's play is very much a theatrical event, with a handful of actors playing a huge assortment of characters, but this production is overloaded with extraneous cast members, some having no more than a minute of dialogue and, as good as they may be, there's a sprawling, woefully unconnected feel to the proceedings.
