The obesity epidemic may start in the schoolyard, but it has a devastating impact on the workplace. The Students Health and Fitness Act of 2005 will help curb the problem where it begins, with children, in hopes of saving lives and, consequently, saving corporate America billions of dollars annually. Obesity is costing employers $13 billion each year in higher health insurance costs, increased absenteeism, and increased health and disability insurance premiums, according to The Washington Business Group on Health. That is why the Students Health and Fitness Act of 2005 is such an important step for South Carolina. The Students Health and Fitness Act of 2005 implements a well-rounded approach to health and nutrition designed to help tomorrow's workers make the most of their education. The Students Health and Fitness Act of 2005 can combat obesity by starting with the children, reduce costs for South Carolina businesses, and, ultimately, help save lives.
